I was so excited to find this podcast! i will be spending 2 months in russia next year. I am in a program to complete some of my student teaching requirement there. I will be working in the language department of a school and will be living with a family there. Now I can learn some basics wile I walk to class.

I just started studying Russian in France, but pedagogical methods are a little new, and I'm so glad to have found a way to do some daily practice and learning on my own terms. I have a question. Does one really not pronounce the "B" (V) sound after the "a"? I noticed in your phonetic transcription you didn't include it. Thanks!

Hi. I just found your podcast just a few days ago, and Im very excited to brush up on my Russian. I was actually born in Russia, but moved to the U.s. when I was young so I kind of forgot my Russian. Anyways, Im 16 now, and really want to know how to say things when I go back to visit Russia. Thank you for having this podcast.

ReplyDeleteI have seen some different alphabets that have different ways of pronouncing some of the letters. Just wondering if your way was the only way or if there are different ways to pronounce letters.
GUS, what 'different alphabets' are you talking about?

ReplyDeleteGus, after looking around that site, I got a feeling English is not this man's forte. I also found other mistakes in the alphabet's examples. One has to know both Russian AND English phonetics in order to give suitable corresponding sounds.

I live in Azerbaijan and often, the dialect and small changes in the Russian pronunciation makes it very difficult to learn unadulterated Russian. I hope to learn enough that my trips throughout Baku and Tbilisi will make it easier to move around!

ReplyDeleteНаталья, а у меня вот еще какой вопрос. Я учу английский со школьной скамьи, но особых результатов нет. Думаю, это по тому, что я никогда не общалась с носителями английского. Ведь в любой науке нужна практика. Вот и среди Ваших учеников наверняка найдутся желающие поговорить с носителем русского.
