I grew up in Upstate New York, which gave me a seriously monolinguistic background.
Recently, I moved to Brighton Beach in Brooklyn, and am immersed in Russian culture and language.
I realize that your podcast production is on hold, but I am grateful to you for your archieved lessons. I have already been able to use what I've learned in the local stores and restaurants, which is very pleasing to the Russian owners and staff.
Thank you for your help in my transition into Little Moscow by the Sea!

Hey Natalia and Emily! Your podcast is absolutely amazing. It makes learning a language so much more enjoyable. I'm trying to learn as much Russian as I can before I go to Europe with my friend--who is Russian. :) Keep it up! And God bless.

Hi Natalia!
I'm a spanish boy and my girlfriend is a russian girl. Although she knows to speak spanish, i would like someday speak fluently in her native language, but russian language always has been very difficult for me because we usually don't meet during a long time. At least this blog has helped me from the first days to understand some words and phrases (she smiles when I speak very basic russian by phone)
Thank you for your blog. Everyday both she and I are a little nearer.

yandher, at 12:52 PM
Dearest Natalia,
Thank you so much for making this podcast. I just started making an effort to learn to understand some basic Russian, and your podcast is outstanding!
Gratefully,

Natalia,
Thanks to you I am doing something I thought was impossible. I am learning to speak and write in Russian. I can't tell you how greatful I am. You manner of teaching is so good that even some one with learning problems is able to do it. I can't say enough about you and Emily of course. By having her with you it makes me feel comfortable and not so self conscience about quote "Giving up your dignaty." (wonder who said that. LOL) Anyway Thanks again!

I have dabbled at Spoonful of Russian since you started. I think your podcast and site are fantastic!!
I am studying French now, but I want to learn Russian eventually, and look forward to your return - my mother's side of the family is from Serbia, thus my interest in Russian. I believe that between your podcasts and Rosetta Stone, I can obtain enough confidence to converse with my good friend in Petrozavodsk Karelia Russia and others here as well.
Thanks and look forward to your return.

Q: spoonful.. whats is the meaning behind the word? just asking..
A: 'spoonful' is literally 'ложка' (loshkah). I used the term to describe the amount of info given in each podcast. Not too much, just a taste:) Hope that helps.

I've been interested in learning Russian ever since I was in 5th grade, and I first listened to t.A.T.u. I'm now 16 years old, a junior in high school, and planning to at least minor in the language in college.
I've taken a few private lessons in Russian, but due to moving, I had to quit. That's when I found your podcast. I've listened to them a ton this summer, and they're very helpful. Thank you so much.
My history and philosophy teacher is from Russia, and she's offered to take me next summer to Moscow. I'm absolutely thrilled!
My best friend's dad teaches in Russia, and so she has a ton of Russian music. When I'm not revisting your podcast, I listen to some Витас,Чайф or Земфира. I had one song, and I had no what it was called or who it was by, but I found out at the end of lesson 6- Зачем вы, девушки, красивых любите? It's such a gorgeous song, and it's my most played song on iTunes.:-)
Again, thank you for this podcast. I really enjoyed it, and I wish you the very best of luck with your studies- Удачи! :-)
Спасибо,
Шона

Very ironic! I finally, after 10 years, took a vacation from New Orleans, and went to Odesa, Ukraine. There, I downloaded these GREAT podcasts and heard that you were from New Orleans! I am a book publisher and have toyed with the idea of a book on speaking Russian. If you are still in New Orleans, please send me an e-mail at whatisyourexcuse@yahoo (.com). Many thanks. -Josh

Natalie,
I'm enjoying your podcast which I am finding helpful as I try to learn Russian. I was looking for a Russian keyboard for my Mac. Apparently Apple does make them but they are only available overseas. I found one on a site, but am a little hesitant to hand my credit card number out without knowing a little something about who I'm giving it to. Could you recommend a reliable source for keyboards?

Charlie, hey. I searched Amazon.com and found this:
http://www.amazon.com/Cyrillic-Russian-English-Computer-Keyboard/dp/B000MD5442/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1227017403&sr=8-8
check it out! Hope that helps.

I absolutely loved your podcast, Natalia. It's helped me a great deal. Clearly, you are a born teacher. It's unfortunate that I discovered your podcast after your schedule made it impossible to continue. I'll tell you what, though... I would pay to subscribe to such a podcast, if you ever decide to take it up again... and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
